Attack on Titan 3 Adapts Hajime Isayama's Complete Saga: Nine Titans, Final Season, and December 10 Release

Attack on Titan 3 (A.O.T. 3) ODM gear combat gameplay Koei Tecmo Omega Force

Seven years after the Final Battle expansion for its predecessor, Koei Tecmo and developer Omega Force are bringing the franchise to its ultimate conclusion with Attack on Titan 3 (titled A.O.T. 3 in Europe). Unlike previous entries that released while the source material was still ongoing, this new installment for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (via Steam) adapts Hajime Isayama's entire narrative arc from beginning to end.

From the Fall of Wall Maria to the Rumbling: The Complete Story

The core ambition behind Attack on Titan 3 is to unite the entirety of the manga and anime timeline into a single campaign. Iconic early-series milestones, such as the desperate defense of Trost District and the battle to retake Shiganshina, have been completely rebuilt to take advantage of modern hardware.

More importantly, the campaign finally crosses the sea to cover the explosive events of The Final Season. Spanning the raid on Liberio in Marley all the way to Eren Yeager's apocalyptic Rumbling, the game introduces direct, high-stakes boss battles against all of the Nine Titans (including the Attack, Armored, Colossal, Female, Beast, Jaw, Cart, War Hammer, and Founding Titans) for the first time in the video game series.

Returning fans will once again create and customize their own original Scout cadet joining the 104th Cadet Corps and the Survey Corps. Alongside experiencing canon milestones and brand-new story subplots supervised with the IP holders, players will fight alongside an expanded roster: classics like Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Levi, Hange, and Erwin are now joined by key figures from the Marley and Final Season arcs, including Pieck Finger, Porco Galliard, Gabi Braun, Falco Grice, Yelena, and Onyankopon.

Evolved ODM Gear, Buddy Arts, and Special Exterior Missions

On the battlefield, Omega Force has overhauled its signature Omni-Directional Mobility (ODM) physics, delivering faster anchor points, sharper altitude control, and more fluid mid-air momentum shifts. While the thrill of scaling towering foes shares DNA with upcoming giant-hunting titles like Korean dark fantasy ARPG VANRAN, Omega Force's formula remains built around high-velocity grappling wires, steel blades, and Thunder Spears.

To match the upgraded mobility, Titan AI has been reworked with more unpredictable movement patterns and aggressive counter-attacks, forcing players to read each Titan's posture on the fly before slicing the nape. However, an optional Simple Controls mode ensures that newcomers can still pull off acrobatic maneuvers worthy of a veteran Scout.

Outside the main story chapters, progression revolves around two expanded systems:

  • Regimental HQ Life and Buddy Arts: Between deployments, players can share meals in the mess hall, exchange gifts, and hold conversations in the barracks to deepen bonds with canon characters. Building these relationships directly unlocks Buddy Arts, powerful cooperative attacks executed with squadmates in the heat of battle.
  • Special Exterior Missions: Making its debut in Attack on Titan 3, this mode puts you in command of a custom squad venturing into hazardous territories outside the Walls. As squad leader, you construct supply bases and make life-or-death tactical calls on whether to press the offensive or order a retreat when overwhelmed.

Opening Animation Produced by MAPPA and Directed by Arifumi Imai

To celebrate the culmination of the trilogy, Koei Tecmo confirmed a major animation collaboration: the game's opening cinematic movie is produced by studio MAPPA (the animation house behind The Final Season) and directed by Arifumi Imai, the legendary key animator and action director famous for Levi's most iconic high-speed sequences in the anime. Koei Tecmo noted that this opening animation will be added via a free post-launch update rather than being included on day one.

Release Date, Editions, and PC Features

Attack on Titan 3 launches officially on December 10, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam (unlocking on December 9 in certain time zones on Steam), making it one of the biggest action releases on the December 2026 release calendar.

Priced at $69.99 for the Standard Edition, the game will also offer a Digital Deluxe Edition featuring a digital artbook, bonus gear and character packs, starter items, and 72-hour early access beginning December 6/7. A physical Steelbook Launch Edition with ICONART visuals is also available for consoles, and players with local save data from A.O.T. 2 or A.O.T. 2: Final Battle will unlock special legacy bonuses. On PC, the release supports 4K Ultra HD resolution, ultrawide monitors, HDR, high refresh rates, customizable mouse and keyboard bindings, and multiple upscaling technologies.

My Take

As a die-hard fan of the franchise and Hajime Isayama's manga, I could not be happier to see this trilogy finally reach the finish line. Discovering this manga years ago was a genuine revelation for me: what an extraordinary story, and what jaw-dropping plot twists from start to finish! Even though we already know how the saga ends and every secret locked inside the basement in Shiganshina, diving back into these games always gives me the exact same rush of pure joy. Experiencing that exhilarating high-speed ODM momentum while finally playing through the complete story all the way to the Rumbling and the Nine Titans battles in Liberio, topped off by an opening directed by Arifumi Imai at MAPPA, is everything fans have been waiting for. My only technical question mark now is how well the camera and 60 FPS target will hold up when dozens of Titans and Thunder Spear explosions fill the screen at once, especially on Nintendo Switch 2.
