Native 4K at 60 FPS, 120Hz Mode, and Free Upgrade: Metro Redux Next-Gen Update Launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

Metro Redux Next-Gen Update PS5 and Xbox Series X|S 4K 120 FPS

One week after shaking up PC hardware configurations, 4A Games and Deep Silver have officially launched the Metro Redux Next-Gen Update today, October 29, 2026, on PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. Bringing native current-gen executables to both Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, the overhaul arrives with a major bonus for longtime fans: it is a completely free upgrade for all existing PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners.

Native 4K at 60 FPS, 120Hz Mode, and PS5 Pro PSSR Support

Previously limited to backward compatibility on modern consoles, Artyom's first two underground journeys now run natively on current-generation silicon. Players on PS5 and Xbox Series X can choose between true native 4K resolution at 60 FPS or an upscaled 4K performance mode reaching up to 120 FPS on compatible HDMI 2.1 displays.

Following last week's PC patch that introduced hidden DLSS neural rendering and overhauled character faces in Metro Redux, the console release carries over a comprehensive suite of visual upgrades. The updated 4A Engine packs high-resolution 4K textures, a refined dynamic lighting and shadow pipeline, denser particle effects, richer environmental geometry, and improved animation fidelity across both campaigns.

DualSense Haptics, Xbox Impulse Triggers, and Play Anywhere

Beyond raw resolution and frame rate boosts, 4A Games tailored platform-specific features for each console family to heighten tension inside Moscow's irradiated tunnels:

  • PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro: full support for DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers (delivering distinct trigger tension for makeshift pneumatic weapons like the Tikhar and heavy shotguns), alongside native PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) support on PS5 Pro.
  • Xbox Series X|S: integration of 4A TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing on Series X, custom Xbox Impulse Triggers feedback, spatial audio support, and full Xbox Play Anywhere compatibility across Xbox consoles, Windows PC, and handheld Windows devices.
  • Community Bug Fixes: the patch bundles a long list of community-requested bug fixes and title-specific gameplay tweaks across both Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux.

A Free Upgrade Celebrating 50 Million Franchise Sales Ahead of Metro 2039

The native console release marks a major milestone for 4A Games and Deep Silver as the Metro franchise officially surpasses 50 million copies sold worldwide. It also serves as a timely refresher for newcomers and returning Spartans alike, arriving just weeks after Metro 2039 opened pre-orders ahead of its February 2027 release.

Anyone who already owns Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux, or the combined Metro Redux bundle on PS4 or Xbox One can download the native PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost via the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store. My Perspective

Dropping back into Moscow's claustrophobic tunnels at 120 FPS with DualSense adaptive triggers pushing back against every pneumatic pump of the Tikhar rifle is exactly the kind of second wind these atmospheric classics deserved. When the original Redux remasters landed in 2014, they rescued Metro 2033 from its clunky roots by unifying both games under 60 FPS, but the old 1080p ceiling was definitely showing its age on modern 4K OLED screens. What stands out most here is how 4A Games and Deep Silver handled the rollout: in an era where plenty of publishers charge ten or twenty dollars for a barebones frame-rate unlock, handing out a native 4K/120Hz overhaul with PSSR and Xbox Play Anywhere support completely free to existing owners ahead of Metro 2039 is pure class.
