Unreal Engine 5, SimFauna Ecosystem, and Licensed Off-Road Vehicles: Hunting Simulator 3 Launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC

Hunting Simulator 3 bow hunter and hunting dog in Unreal Engine 5

Virtual hunting season officially kicks off this Thursday, October 29, 2026. Publisher Nacon and Belgian developer Nacon Studio Ghent (formerly known as Neopica) have released Hunting Simulator 3 worldwide across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Accompanying today's debut, a brand-new launch trailer highlights the generational leap achieved since the second installment arrived back in 2020.

Following the surprise debut of Way of the Hunter 2 and its Unreal Engine 5 reserves late last month, Nacon's long-running franchise answers back with a ground-up overhaul of both its rendering technology and its wildlife simulation.

Colorado, Texas, and the Dynamic SimFauna Ecosystem in Unreal Engine 5

The biggest foundational shift in this third entry is the transition to Unreal Engine 5. The engine powers two expansive North American open-world regions, each spanning roughly 100 square kilometers: the misty mountain forests and valleys of Colorado, and the rugged, sun-drenched outback of Texas. Across both territories, players can track and observe more than 40 distinct animal species, ranging from big game and apex predators to small game and waterfowl.

To move past scripted patrol routes, Nacon Studio Ghent introduces its proprietary "SimFauna" ecosystem technology. Under this dynamic model, animal populations actively respond to player actions over time. Wildlife within your reserve ages naturally, reproduces, and alters its daily feeding or migration habits depending on wind direction, noise levels, and how aggressively you hunt specific zones.

Licensed Off-Road Vehicles, Hunting Dogs, and Over 75 Pieces of Authentic Gear

Covering 100-square-kilometer maps requires proper mobility, and Hunting Simulator 3 introduces officially licensed off-road vehicles for the very first time in the series. Alongside traditional foot tracking, players can get behind the wheel of 4x4 SUVs and UTV buggies built in partnership with Ford, Kawasaki, and Polaris (including the quiet electric Polaris Ranger EV, ideal for approaching hunting grounds without spooking nearby herds).

Once on foot, your faithful hunting dog returns as a core tracking partner. Controlled through a dedicated command wheel, your canine companion uses its heightened senses to pinpoint fresh tracks, follow blood or scent trails through dense brush, and retrieve small game. In the armory, the game packs more than 75 officially licensed weapons, optics, and accessories (rifles, shotguns, compound bows, crossbows, decoys, and callers) from industry heavyweights including Beretta, Browning, Winchester, and Remington.

Customizable Hunting Lodge, Clay-Pigeon Shooting, and Launch Pricing

Between expeditions into the wilderness, a customizable hunting lodge acts as a personal hub where players can mount their finest trophies, fine-tune weapon loadouts, or relax by the fireplace. The lodge grounds also feature a timed clay-pigeon shooting range complete with online leaderboards to sharpen your aim before heading back into the field.

Rounding out a packed schedule of late October game releases on Xbox and PC, Hunting Simulator 3 carries a standard retail price of $39.99 (€39.99), with a 20% launch discount on Steam bringing it down to $31.99 (€31.99). An Apex Predator Edition is also available on Steam for $43.99 (regularly $54.99), while the standalone Apex Predator Pack ($14.99) and Classic American Hunter Pack ($4.99) DLCs are up for grabs individually.

My Perspective

Hunting simulations have historically struggled with pacing, often forcing players to trek across static landscapes for hours before feeling any real sense of ecological life. By pairing Unreal Engine 5's natural lighting with licensed Polaris and Kawasaki off-roaders and the aging mechanics of the SimFauna system, Nacon Studio Ghent directly addresses the biggest shortcomings I had with the previous game. I especially appreciate how the vehicle traversal, the dog command wheel, and the clay-pigeon range at the lodge complement one another, giving sessions a much livelier rhythm without sacrificing the patience required for a clean stalk in the Colorado woods.
