Ayasa: Shadows of Silence Launches Today on PS5, Xbox, and Switch: A Dialogue-Free Nightmare Inspired by Little Nightmares and Komitas

Ayasa Shadows of Silence official launch key art on PS5 Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch

Just in time for Halloween week, an atmospheric indie horror gem has officially made the leap to living room consoles. Following its initial PC debut late last year ($19.99 on Steam), Ayasa: Shadows of Silence launches today, Monday, October 26, 2026, across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. To celebrate its multi-platform console arrival, indie developer Aya Games alongside the official PlayStation and Xbox channels have unveiled a haunting new launch trailer.

If you already spotted the title in our weekly roundup of new Xbox games releasing between October 26 and October 30, 2026, today's showcase highlights the full artistic vision behind a 2.5D adventure that tells its story without uttering a single word.

The Inverted World of Tas: Six Lands of Human Virtues and Sins

In Ayasa: Shadows of Silence, players step into the shoes of a young girl named Ayasa navigating the surreal Inverted World. Once kept in peaceful harmony by the Absolute known as Tas, this realm was shattered when war and creeping darkness corrupted its core. To save her collapsing homeland from total ruin, Ayasa must journey through the shadows in search of the last remaining fragments of Tas's light.

Her perilous pilgrimage spans six symbolic lands, each embodying a fundamental moral force of human nature: Faith, Hope, Love, Greed, Indifference, and Betrayal. Rather than locking players into a single rigid outcome, the narrative weaves moral choices directly into your actions: showing compassion or giving in to indifference along the way shapes the fate of the Inverted World and leads to multiple distinct endings.

Zero Dialogue, Dark Pantomime, and the Musical Legacy of Komitas

What immediately sets Aya Games' creation apart is its bold storytelling commitment: the entire journey unfolds with zero text and not a single line of spoken dialogue. Every emotion and narrative beat is conveyed through silent pantomime, Ayasa's expressive body language, cinematic camera framing, and environmental symbolism. The Yerevan-based studio openly draws inspiration from silent cinema and visionary creators such as Tim Burton, Hayao Miyazaki, René Laloux, and celebrated Armenian surrealist animator Robert Sahakyants.

With no spoken voices to guide the player, the soundtrack becomes the true narrator of the experience. The score is deeply inspired by the works of Komitas, the legendary Armenian composer and ethnomusicologist. His melancholic melodies and haunting choral textures give every biome a deeply emotional resonance, turning each desperate escape through the dark into a tragic stage play.

Light and Shadow Powers in the Vein of Little Nightmares

Controller in hand, Ayasa: Shadows of Silence follows in the footsteps of acclaimed atmospheric puzzle-platformers like Inside, Limbo, and the original Little Nightmares on PlayStation 4 (whose physical NTSC edition currently tracks around $22.37 Loose and $24.98 Complete in Box for collectors). To survive against the grotesque creatures stalking the darkness, stealth and quick reflexes alone are not always enough.

By harnessing the remnants of Tas's light, Ayasa gradually unlocks supernatural abilities vital to her survival:

  • Light and shadow mastery to reveal hidden pathways across the environment or blend into the darkness using invisibility.
  • Time control to freeze lethal mechanisms and solve intricate environmental puzzles.
  • Energy manipulation and dimensional traversal to bypass deadly traps and evade the monstrous predators lurking across the six corrupted lands.

My Perspective

I have to admit that I fell under the spell of this game's art direction right from the first frame! I absolutely loved the claustrophobic, miniature tension of Little Nightmares back when it came out, and I am thrilled to see an indie studio like Aya Games infuse this genre with its own rich cultural heritage. Replacing all spoken dialogue with pure pantomime and melodies inspired by Komitas gives the world a hauntingly poetic soul. With Halloween right around the corner, curling up with a good pair of headphones to explore these six surreal lands sounds like the perfect late-night session!
