Nightmare: The Lunatic Launches Physical Standard and Collector's Editions on PS5 and Nintendo Switch

Nightmare: The Lunatic physical Standard and Collector's Edition PS5 and Nintendo Switch

Originally released digitally in spring 2024, the fast-paced 2D action roguelite RPG Nightmare: The Lunatic has officially arrived on retail shelves. Spanish physical publisher SelectaPlay, in partnership with digital publisher CFK and South Korean studio Maetdol Games, has announced that both the physical Standard Edition and Collector's Edition are now available for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

Three-Weapon Swapping, Split-Second Parries, and a Shifting Dreamscape

In Nightmare: The Lunatic, players wake up trapped inside a constantly mutating nightmare with no memory of how they arrived, forced to battle relentless waves of monsters to break the cycle. Combat revolves around high-speed mobility and on-the-fly arsenal management: you can equip up to three weapons at the same time and swap between them in a fraction of a second mid-combo to exploit enemy openings.

Surviving these procedurally shifting dungeons demands tight dodges and split-second parries against aggressive bosses with distinct attack patterns. Along the way, the mysterious Dream Merchant helps you forge contracts, unlock new abilities, and stack powerful totems to tailor your build across repeated runs, standing out among the indie action titles energizing consoles alongside Chivalware and its playable roguelite demo.

My Perspective

I have always had a soft spot for 2D pixel-art roguelites that reward instant weapon-swapping and crisp parry timing over mindless button-mashing. Seeing an underrated South Korean indie gem like Nightmare: The Lunatic get a proper cartridge and disc print run, complete with a 2-CD soundtrack digipack and a 32-page artbook for under $70, is exactly the kind of physical preservation effort from SelectaPlay that makes collecting for Switch and PS5 so rewarding.
