Rated 4.97 Out of 5 on the PlayStation Store: Why Toy Story 3 Complete Edition Is Winning Over PS5 Players

Toy Story 3 Complete Edition

Launched on October 15, 2026, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC at $24.99, Disney/Pixar Toy Story 3 Complete Edition is enjoying a near-flawless reception from players. On the official PlayStation Store, the remaster developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Atari currently holds an average rating of 4.97 out of 5 stars (over 99/100) across more than 650 verified player ratings.

A closer look at the PlayStation Store rating breakdown shows just how unanimous the response has been: 98% of buyers awarded the game a full 5-star score, while the remaining 2% gave it 4 stars, leaving zero ratings at 3 stars or below. Over on Steam, the modernized release has also secured a "Very Positive" user rating right out of the gate.

A PS3-Era Cult Classic Unified in 4K and 60 FPS

To understand why a 2010 movie tie-in commands this level of devotion sixteen years later, it helps to look back at what Avalanche Software originally built on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Unlike the disposable licensed cash-ins that flooded store shelves during the seventh console generation, this release effectively packed two distinct games onto a single disc.

Story Mode lets up to two players in local split-screen co-op battle through eight set-piece chapters inspired by the animated film, from the runaway train rescue and Operation Playtime to Sunnyside Daycare and the incinerator junkyard. Players can swap on the fly between Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie to combine their platforming and combat skills.

This preservation push is part of a broader double feature from Atari and Digital Eclipse, who also explained earlier this week why Toy Story Retro Roundup chose the PlayStation port over the Nintendo 64 for its companion retro collection, available separately or bundled in a physical PS5 Double Pack.

Under the hood, the Complete Edition upgrades the original visual assets to run at up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second on modern hardware. On PS5, the port also integrates native DualSense wireless controller vibration support.

Toy Box Mode and PS3-Exclusive Emperor Zurg Unlocked for Everyone

The biggest driver behind the 99/100 user score is the return of Toy Box Mode. Set in the open-ended frontier sandbox of Woody's Roundup, this mode lets players take on quests from townsfolk, earn gold, construct and paint new buildings, dress up citizens, and reshape the entire valley at their own pace.

In fact, the overwhelming popularity of Toy Box Mode back in 2010 was the direct blueprint that led Avalanche Software and Disney Interactive to create the Disney Infinity series three years later. Back then, PC players were stuck with a watered-down port based on the limited Wii version, missing out on the full open-world sandbox that console players enjoyed.

Previously locked to the 2010 PS3 version, Emperor Zurg is now playable across all platforms in Toy Box Mode.

For the first time, Digital Eclipse has unified all previously platform-locked bonus content into the base package. Players across every platform can now jump into Toy Box Mode as the Evil Emperor Zurg, complete with his ion blaster, custom vehicle, and villain missions that were strictly exclusive to the PlayStation 3 disc in 2010.

The remaster also bundles four additional Theme Packs out of the box, expanding the customization catalog with extra props, buildings, and costumes. Much like this week's Unreal Engine 5 overhaul for Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey on PS5, the response proves how quickly players rally behind a preservation team that delivers a complete, microtransaction-free edition of a beloved classic.

My Take: A Rare Licensed Game That Earned Its Cult Status

Going back to Woody's Roundup sixteen years after playing the original PS3 disc, it is immediately obvious why PlayStation Store buyers are handing out five-star ratings almost unanimously. At a time when movie tie-ins were treated as disposable five-hour commercials, Avalanche Software quietly built a split-screen western sandbox with more charm and replay value than many full-priced triple-A releases.

Freeing Emperor Zurg from his old PS3 exclusivity and finally replacing the gutted 2010 PC port with the true 4K console edition at $24.99 rights a long-standing preservation wrong. That 4.97 out of 5 score is a well-deserved victory lap for a studio classic that never belonged in the bargain bin.
