The Blood of Dawnwalker Update 1.1: Ability Respec, FrameGen Settings, and Over 1,100 Fixes Revealed

Just weeks after its strong debut across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Polish studio Rebel Wolves and publisher Bandai Namco have officially detailed Update 1.1 for The Blood of Dawnwalker. Scheduled to roll out next week, this first major post-launch patch directly addresses the most requested community features in the valley of Vale Sangora, introducing an ability respec potion, an even more accessible Story difficulty tier, FrameGen settings, and over 1,100 improvements and bug fixes.
Draught of Mind Rebirth, Directional Animal Petting, and Difficulty Rework
At launch, every skill point invested across Coen's human and vampire ability trees was permanent, locking players into their early progression choices throughout the game's thirty-day and thirty-night countdown. Update 1.1 introduces the Draught of Mind Rebirth: a new elixir that allows players to completely reset their spent ability points and learn a fresh set of skills, making it easy to experiment with hybrid combat or stealth builds without restarting a campaign.
This rapid response to player feedback builds on the studio's momentum after The Blood of Dawnwalker crossed one million sales in its opening week and confirmed a multi-era sequel. For players who want to experience the dark 14th-century narrative without getting bogged down by punishing sword duels, Rebel Wolves has also restructured its campaign difficulty options:
- New "Story" Difficulty Option: A brand-new, ultra-accessible difficulty tier has been added at the bottom of the scale featuring additional combat assist for narrative-focused players.
- Original Story Mode Renamed to "Forgiving": The launch version's easiest mode retains its balance parameters under the new Forgiving label, bringing the total number of difficulty tiers to five.
- Directional Animal Petting: One of the community's most requested quality-of-life additions arrives next week, with the developers cleverly repurposing the game's directional combat mechanics to allow directional animal petting across the world.
- Expanded Subtitle Accessibility: Players can now increase subtitle font sizes and enable subtitles for all background and ambient dialogue lines.

FrameGen Settings, Lock-On Refinements, and Vampire Traversal Tweaks
Beyond quality-of-life additions, Update 1.1 delivers targeted technical and combat refinements under the hood. On PC, the patch introduces a dedicated FrameGen update complete with new menu settings to fine-tune frame generation and visual smoothness across demanding Carpathian vistas.
Melee encounters and Coen's nocturnal mobility have also been sharpened with the same post-launch care seen recently in The Witcher 3 Remastered Patch 5.01:
- Combat Targeting, Lock-On, and Disengaging: Target acquisition and disengagement have been reworked. Stunned enemies now require multiple consecutive hits before breaking out of their stun state, preventing the lock-on system from abruptly snapping to a different enemy mid-combo.
- Smoothed Combat Camera: Camera animations and combat camera movements have been adjusted to improve visibility in tight indoor spaces.
- More Responsive Shadowstep and Planeshift: Vampire traversal powers now react much more reliably when targeting ledges and attaching to vertical surfaces.
- Uncensored Japanese Version: The Japanese release of the game no longer censors blood and gore effects.
- Over 1,100 Additional Fixes: Extensive quest script repairs, collision fixes, and stability optimizations across consoles and PC.
My Take
Seeing Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and his team deliver over 1,100 fixes alongside an ability respec potion just weeks after launch is a textbook example of how to support a major single-player RPG. In a campaign where the thirty-day time limit already makes every quest decision feel weighty, being locked into early skill tree choices made experimenting between daytime swordplay and nighttime vampire powers needlessly restrictive. Adding the Draught of Mind Rebirth, fixing the lock-on camera snapping off stunned enemies, and making Shadowstep latch onto rooftops more reliably addresses almost every mechanical friction point I noticed during my first playthrough. Repurposing the directional sword combat system just so players can pet animals from different angles is the icing on the cake.
