A Decade of Clay Sculpting and November 12 Release: Stop-Motion Gem Harold Halibut Heads to Switch 2

Harold Halibut Nintendo Switch 2

German indie developer Slow Bros. has officially unveiled the long-awaited launch date for its handmade narrative adventure. The stop-motion masterpiece Harold Halibut will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on Thursday, November 12, 2026.

First released in early 2024 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, the game never managed to grace the original Switch. Its heavy graphical demands and complex physical models made an earlier handheld conversion technically impossible.

The generational power leap provided by the Switch 2 finally solves this technical hurdle. Players can now enjoy the complete visual presentation on the go without sacrificing high-resolution textures or frame pacing.

A Submerged Starship Trapped Beneath Alien Oceans

The story follows Harold, an endearing and clumsy laboratory assistant living inside the FEDORA I. This colossal colony spaceship has been shipwrecked for 250 years in the crushing depths of an uncharted alien ocean.

Alongside lead scientist Jeanne Mareaux, Harold navigates daily maintenance routines throughout the aquatic station. Between odd chores, he searches for a viable path to reignite the ship's engines and escape toward dry land.

The narrative unfolds as a slow-paced adventure packed with heartfelt dialogue and full English voice acting. Players interact with eccentric citizens across bustling retro-futuristic corridors while uncovering personal dramas beneath the waves.

A Decade of Clay Craftsmanship and 3D Photogrammetry

What elevates Harold Halibut above standard indie adventures is its unprecedented artisanal commitment. The Cologne-based creative team dedicated more than ten full years to physically sculpting every single character, puppet, costume, and miniature set from clay and wood.

Every handcrafted asset was subsequently captured with precision 3D photogrammetry and animated within the Unity engine. This seamless blend of classical stop-motion cinema and modern rendering creates a tangible aesthetic where fingerprints on sculpted faces remain visible on screen.

The November launch lands during an exceptionally busy autumn release window, covered extensively in our guide to the November 2026 video game releases.

My Take

When an indie studio spends an entire decade molding fabric folds and tiny props by hand in the spirit of Wes Anderson or Aardman Animations, I cannot help but be deeply impressed.

Diving into this underwater aquarium under a warm blanket or during my commute on the Switch 2 screen brings a level of intimacy that fits this poetic journey perfectly. It is exactly the kind of tactile artistic gem I wanted to carry everywhere.
