Dragon's Dogma 2 Update 4.0 Launches With Hard Mode, DLSS 4.5, and Dark Arisen Expansion

Dragon's Dogma 2 Update 4.0

Capcom dropped a massive double release today, October 9, 2026. The Japanese publisher rolled out the free Update 4.0 across all platforms alongside the worldwide launch of the paid Dark Arisen expansion.

This major drop delivers the long-awaited Hard Mode, deep technical upgrades, and an expansive endgame ecosystem.

Hard Mode and New Save Progression Overhaul the Journey

Action-RPG veterans looking for a brutal challenge finally have their answer. Update 4.0 introduces an uncompromising Hard Mode, accessible when starting fresh or applied directly to your existing save.

Enemy aggression is ramped up, stamina penalties bite much harder, and slip-ups during encounters quickly turn fatal.

Capcom also addressed one of the community's biggest requests regarding save management. Players can now restart the entire adventure from the beginning while keeping their level, unlocked vocations, and gear intact.

Pawns gain a brand-new specialization called "Orienteer." This utility helps your companion mark hidden chests, rare gathering nodes, and alternate routes across the wilderness.

Cutting-Edge PC Tech: DLSS 4.5, FSR 3, and Enhanced PS5 Pro Support

On the performance front, Update 4.0 delivers substantial optimizations. PC players now have native access to AMD FSR 3 Frame Generation and NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation.

These additions smooth out framerates in CPU-heavy urban hubs like Vernworth. PC players using a DualSense controller will also notice refined haptic feedback during spell casting and weapon collisions.

On consoles, PlayStation 5 Pro owners benefit from Enhanced PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) support, delivering razor-sharp visual clarity and steady frame pacing.

Dark Arisen Expansion: Norgan Tundra, Lost Rites Dungeons, and Level 40 Gate

For Arisen eager to venture further, the paid Dark Arisen expansion unlocks Norgan. This northern tundra is battered by unrelenting blizzards that chill your party and introduce deadly arctic beasts.

Following our earlier breakdown of the Norgan reveal and release date, the expansion also adds 12 endgame dungeons called "Lost Rites" across Vermund and Battahl.

A fresh relic expedition loop gives players a compelling endgame hunt to tackle colossal beasts and craft top-tier gear.

To start the Dark Arisen storyline, speak with Captain Brant at the Vernworth tavern after nightfall. Capcom recommends reaching at least Level 40 before heading into the freezing wild.
