Xbox Drops 5 Free Games This Weekend With No Game Pass Required
Xbox players are getting an unexpected treat this weekend. From Thursday, October 8 through Sunday, October 11, 2026, Microsoft is running an expanded edition of its Xbox Free Play Days promotion.
While Free Play Days usually require an active Xbox Game Pass Core or Ultimate subscription, Microsoft has dropped the subscription requirement entirely for five major titles.
Five free games with no Game Pass required
Any Xbox console owner can jump into the Microsoft Store right now and download these titles without spending a single dollar. No active paid membership is required to start playing.
Here is the full five-game lineup accessible to all Xbox players:
- ARC Raiders (Embark Studios): full game access to celebrate the launch of the major Frozen Trail content update. This trial remains active through Monday, October 12.
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl (GSC Game World): timed game trial exploring the dangerous radioactive wilderness of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.
- Little Nightmares III (Supermassive Games / Bandai Namco): timed trial for the atmospheric horror adventure, playable in solo or online co-op.
- High On Life 2 (Squanch Games): timed trial for the fast-paced comedy sci-fi shooter featuring talkative alien weaponry.
- Rogue Waters (Tripwire Presents): timed trial for the turn-based tactical pirate rogue-lite.
Two additional bonus titles for Game Pass subscribers
Players who do hold an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, or Essential subscription also get access to two extra games during the event.
Classic arcade racer Screamer and narrative sim Family Man round out the bonus catalogue exclusively for active subscribers.
Whether testing combat mechanics on console or dialing in precision with one of the best PC controllers on the market, these trials offer hours of zero-risk gameplay.
Full progress carryover and weekend store discounts
Everything you accomplish during these trial sessions remains tied to your Xbox account. All saved progress, unlocked achievements, and Gamerscore carry over seamlessly if you choose to purchase any of the games.
Microsoft has also rolled out steep discounts across all featured titles on the Microsoft Store throughout the weekend.
The free event is live right now across Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Downloads wrap up Sunday night, with ARC Raiders remaining accessible through Monday.
