VCT Game Changers Championship 2026: KRÜ Blaze Defeats Gentle Mates GC 3-2 From the Lower Bracket to Claim LATAM's First World Title

KRÜ Blaze lifting the VCT Game Changers Championship 2026 trophy in São Paulo

Undefeated heading into championship Sunday at the Riot Games Arena in São Paulo, EMEA representative Gentle Mates GC came within a single map of lifting the world trophy before running into a relentless South American juggernaut. Storming through the lower bracket, KRÜ Blaze edged Gentle Mates GC 3-2 in the Grand Final of the VCT Game Changers Championship 2026 on November 1.

The result rewrites the VALORANT record books twice over: no team had ever won the Game Changers Championship after dropping into the lower bracket, and no Latin American organization had previously captured the circuit's global crown.

A Five-Map Rollercoaster Decided on Ascent

Having dropped just one map across their entire upper-bracket campaign, Gentle Mates GC (Marti, wens, safiaa, Nami, and berryx) opened the series with authority. On Haven, the European second seed shut down KRÜ's executes to claim a dominant 13-5 victory.

KRÜ Blaze responded in kind on Abyss, matching that exact 13-5 scoreline to level the series at 1-1. The pivotal swing arrived on map three, Sunset: after KRÜ built a commanding halftime cushion, Gentle Mates clawed their way back to force overtime, only for KRÜ Blaze to hold their nerve and close it out 14-12.

Facing championship point, the French organization struck back on Split with a composed 13-8 win to force a fifth and final decider. On Ascent, however, KRÜ Blaze seized early control to open an 11-5 lead before sealing the world title with a 13-8 finish.

Amaro "tok1o" Miranda Claims Grand Final MVP With 84 Kills

While the roster led by Brazilian in-game leader Antônia "antG" Garcia alongside compatriot Kauan "none" Ferreira, Chilean talent Isidora "poniX" Muñoz, and Argentine veteran Lorena "micaela" Ferreyra delivered across all five maps, one star stood above the rest. Argentine standout Amaro "tok1o" Miranda earned Grand Final MVP honors after dropping a team-high 84 kills across the series.

The trophy caps four years of steady upward progression for KRÜ Blaze, who finished 7th-8th in 2022, 5th-6th in both 2023 and 2024, and 4th in 2025, with micaela serving as the sole returning starter from last year's squad. Competing in front of a home crowd in São Paulo, antG and none also became the first Brazilian players to win an international VALORANT tournament hosted on Brazilian soil.

Conquering the Lower Bracket Gauntlet Against Brazil and North America

After opening their tournament with a 2-1 win over Gen.G GC on October 23, KRÜ Blaze were knocked into the lower bracket following a 0-2 semifinal defeat against North America's Shopify Rebellion Gold on October 27. With zero margin for error under coaches bonzitt and mizu, the LATAM squad went on a tear.

They first swept reigning 2025 world champions Team Liquid Brazil 2-0 on October 28, then eliminated local favorites MIBR GC 2-0 on October 30 to end Brazil's representation in the bracket. In the October 31 lower-bracket final, KRÜ Blaze avenged their earlier loss by taking down Shopify Rebellion Gold 3-1, clinching the fourth map on Ascent in a marathon 17-15 overtime.

Bittersweet Silver for Gentle Mates GC and the End of the Standalone Era

For Gentle Mates GC, falling one map short stings after a remarkable debut season in the circuit. Having swept G2 Gozen 3-0 to win EMEA Stage 1 in February before reaching the finals of both Stage 2 and Stage 3, the French organization leaves São Paulo with the $100,000 runner-up prize out of the $500,000 pool (while KRÜ Blaze takes home $180,000), underscoring the multi-title ambition of a club that also recently locked in a superteam featuring Vatira, zen, and Atow for RLCS 2027.

The São Paulo final also marks the end of an era for Riot Games' competitive structure. As documented in the tournament archives on Liquipedia, KRÜ Blaze are the final winners of a standalone Game Changers Championship. Starting next season, as EMEA organizations already reshape their lineups with moves like Alexander "jawgemo" Mor joining Team Vitality for VCT 2027, the Game Changers world finals will merge directly into VALORANT Champions 2027 in Austin, Texas (scheduled for September 16 to October 10, 2027), where every participating Game Changers team is guaranteed a payout equal to this year's $100,000 second-place prize.

My Take

Running the entire lower-bracket gauntlet in São Paulo by knocking out Team Liquid Brazil and MIBR GC in front of their home fans, surviving a 17-15 overtime against Shopify Rebellion Gold, and then outlasting an undefeated Gentle Mates GC over five maps takes nerves of steel. Plenty of rosters would have crumbled after watching a huge halftime lead evaporate on Sunset or dropping Split in the fourth map.

Gentle Mates GC came agonizingly close to bringing the trophy back to Europe for the first time since G2 Gozen in 2022, yet pushing the world final to a fifth map in their inaugural season proves their roster belongs at the very top. Meanwhile, folding the 2027 Game Changers Championship directly into VALORANT Champions in Austin is the smartest move Riot Games has made for the circuit: instead of an isolated end-of-year tournament, the best players in Game Changers will finally compete for their crown on the main stage in front of the entire VCT audience.
