Leon, Jill, and Chris Reunite Under Aniplex: Resident Evil Survival Unit Debuts 1st Anniversary Cinematic Trailer

Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, Carlos Oliveira, and Ashley Graham in Resident Evil Survival Unit

Nearly one full year after its global rollout on iOS and Android on November 18, 2025, Resident Evil: Survival Unit is gearing up for its first major milestone. Co-developed by South Korean studio JOYCITY and Sony Music Entertainment Japan subsidiary Aniplex under close supervision from Capcom, the mobile survival-horror real-time strategy game debuted its official 1st Anniversary Cinematic Trailer on November 2, 2026, alongside a dedicated teaser counting down to a brand-new chapter.

Leon, Jill, Chris, and Claire Unite Around the Commander

Framed around the tagline "Stand together. Survive the horror.", the sixty-second cinematic trailer highlights the core premise of the tactical spin-off: bringing iconic heroes from across the franchise together inside an alternate timeline that begins in a secretive Umbrella Corporation hospital. The footage showcases Leon S. Kennedy charging through bio-organic threats on his motorcycle before opening fire, backed up by Jill Valentine wielding her grenade launcher, Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, Carlos Oliveira, and Ashley Graham.

Standing at the center of the lineup with a rugged field laptop is the player-controlled Protagonist: a biotechnology graduate student abducted by Umbrella who escapes into Raccoon City to find his missing parents and ends up commanding a survivor outpost. This crossover celebration arrives at a pivotal time for the franchise as Capcom prepares to conclude Resident Evil's mainline story within 10 years while expanding the universe across different genres.

Shinji Hashimoto and Yoshitaka Amano's Vision One Year Later

Beyond its base-building and tactical defense mechanics, Resident Evil: Survival Unit stood out from day one thanks to its creative pedigree. Industry veteran Shinji Hashimoto, formerly a longtime Square Enix executive and producer who now serves as Executive Producer at Aniplex, brought legendary artist Yoshitaka Amano on board to design an original creature named Mortem specifically for the project.

Over its first twelve months of live service in 2026, the game steadily expanded its scope. Following the addition of the single-player Underground Power Facility search map beneath the base mansion in January and a full story voice-over update featuring familiar franchise voice talent in June, JOYCITY and Aniplex launched a major Monster Hunter crossover in July 2026 that pitted survivor squads against Rathalos, Silver Rathalos, and Yian Kut-Ku.

Countdown to the 1st Anniversary Update

Alongside the full cinematic showcase, the official channel released a twenty-second 1st Anniversary Teaser featuring a green Umbrella-style terminal screen sitting at 90% system boot progress. The message confirms that the upcoming 1st Anniversary Update will usher in a new narrative phase: "A year of survival, written together in the face of relentless threats. And now, the countdown to a new chapter of survival begins."

Full patch details and in-game anniversary campaigns will roll out on iOS and Android ahead of the November 18 launch date, keeping franchise fans busy while Resident Evil Requiem competes for Ultimate Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2026.

My Perspective

I will be the first to admit that when Aniplex and JOYCITY announced a mobile strategy game set in the Resident Evil universe last year, I expected a disposable tie-in that would fade within a month. Yet having Shinji Hashimoto and Yoshitaka Amano lend their creative DNA to Raccoon City's finest gives this project a strangely compelling charm. This first anniversary cinematic does a great job capturing Leon, Jill, and Chris with the grit of the modern remakes. As long as the upcoming anniversary chapter leans into atmospheric exploration like the mansion's underground facility rather than pure gacha grind, I am more than happy to keep this tactical side story on my phone.
