PHYSINT Exhibited in Tokyo: Hideo Kojima Embraces His Metal Gear Solid Legacy Alongside a New OD: Knock Xbox Series Poster

To celebrate ten years of independence at Kojima Productions, the Japanese studio has opened the doors to its Beyond the Strand anniversary exhibition at the Azabudai Hills Gallery in Tokyo, running from October 31 to December 20, 2026. While the showcase pays extensive tribute to the Death Stranding universe and Yoji Shinkawa's artwork, visitors on site have uncovered striking new displays dedicated to PHYSINT and OD: Knock, Hideo Kojima's next two flagship projects published by Xbox Game Studios.
PHYSINT in Tokyo: Concept Models Fully Embrace the Metal Gear Solid Legacy
Billed from its inception as Hideo Kojima's grand return to tactical espionage action, PHYSINT is using the Tokyo exhibition to reveal its earliest physical design studies. Photographs captured inside the Azabudai Hills Gallery and shared on the ResetEra forums by visitor Firmus Anguis showcase a display case housing several prototype maquettes and conceptual character silhouettes.

At first glance, the visual lineage with the Metal Gear Solid franchise is unmistakable. From the sweeping tactical trench coat and military webbing straps to the armed stealth stances and cyber-industrial armor contours, every detail echoes the iconic aesthetic crafted by Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa since the late 1990s.
Originally announced in early 2024 alongside PlayStation before Sony stepped away from the project in 2026, the game avoided cancellation after a three-month search for a new partner. As officially confirmed during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast headlined by Hideo Kojima, Microsoft is now publishing this new intellectual property starring Bill Skarsgård in the lead role alongside Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe.
OD: Knock Reveals a Chilling New Poster and a Secret Attic Installation
Before PHYSINT enters full-scale production, Kojima Productions remains focused on delivering OD: Knock, its avant-garde horror experience built in Unreal Engine 5 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. At the heart of the Beyond the Strand exhibition, a strictly no-photo secret room recreates a claustrophobic attic chamber preceded by a full-scale replica of the game's signature red door. Attendees who stepped inside describe an unsettling environment filled with crows, raven wings, a ram skull, and a red-eyed white mouse held by an unidentified new character.

For fans unable to travel to Tokyo, Hideo Kojima shared a brand-new official poster for OD: Knock across his social channels. The visual depicts actress Sophia Lillis (who stars alongside Hunter Schafer and the late Udo Kier) grabbed by the face from the shadows while staring intensely at a broom painted entirely bright red. The uncanny photorealism of the MetaHuman facial scans once again blurs the line between cinema and real-time rendering, channeling the psychological dread of the legendary P.T. teaser recently revisited by Guillermo del Toro.
When Hideo Kojima Laughed a Metal Gear Solid Anime Pitch Out of the Room
The cross-media ambitions surrounding PHYSINT and the recent debut trailer for the Death Stranding Isolations animated series (slated for 2027 on Disney+) highlight how eagerly the Japanese auteur now embraces animation. Yet Hideo Kojima was not always so receptive to animated adaptations of his worlds.
Roughly a year after the original Metal Gear Solid launched on PlayStation in 1998, Toonami co-founder Jason DeMarco met with the director to pitch an animated series centered on Solid Snake's covert infiltration against Metal Gear REX. After listening to DeMarco's passionate presentation, Kojima simply pointed a finger at him, said "Otaku!" and burst out laughing, effectively ending the pitch on the spot. More than two decades later, the mastermind of tactical stealth has clearly warmed up to expanding his universes onto the small screen.
My Perspective
Discovering those first PHYSINT concept maquettes lined up inside a Tokyo display case gives me a rush I have not felt since the days of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Even as early silhouette studies, Kojima Productions' signature touch in the tactical harness straps, stealth trench coats, and combat stances is unmistakable. After ten years of trekking across the melancholic landscapes of Death Stranding, watching the master return to pure espionage action with Bill Skarsgård leading the cast feels like the ultimate event for the next console generation.
