No More Laggy Cities: Cities Skylines Hits Switch 2 with Massive Maps and 70% Loyalty Discount

Cities Skylines Expanded Edition on Nintendo Switch 2

City builders on Nintendo hardware have walked a painful road since 2018. The original Switch port of Cities: Skylines was crippled by brutal sub-20 framerates, heavy visual compromises, and an unyielding 9-tile build cap. Paradox Interactive and Tantalus Media are finally wiping the slate clean with Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition, built specifically for Nintendo Switch 2.

The upgraded city simulation lands on October 28, 2026 for $49 / 49 €, accompanied by substantial technical upgrades and a massive loyalty program for longtime Nintendo players.

25 Buildable Tiles, 60 FPS and Native Mouse Support

The biggest bottleneck on consoles is officially gone. Cities: Skylines Expanded Edition unlocks 25 buildable tiles on Switch 2, breaking away from the restrictive 9-tile layout and allowing sprawling metropolitan layouts previously reserved for high-end PCs.

Performance sees a massive overhaul thanks to two dedicated visual profiles : a Performance Mode delivering smooth 60 FPS through hardware-level upscaling, and a Quality Mode locked at 30 FPS with improved lighting, water shaders, and traffic simulation depth.

In a major quality-of-life victory, Switch 2 also introduces native keyboard and mouse support when docked. Players can alternate between Joy-Con controls, the Pro Controller, and full desktop precision to draft complicated highway interchanges and subway networks with pinpoint accuracy.

10 DLC Packs Included and a 70% Loyalty Upgrade

Beyond visual leaps, the Expanded Edition arrives fully loaded. Players gain immediate access to an integrated Map Editor, real-time weather controls, and 10 major DLC expansions right out of the box, including After Dark, Snowfall, Green Cities, Sunset Harbor, Map Pack 3, Country Road, Pearls from the East, Deep Focus Radio, Carols, and Match Day.

Paradox is also extending an olive branch to players who endured the rocky 2018 port. Anyone who owns the original Cities: Skylines on Switch 1 can claim a 70% loyalty discount, dropping the Switch 2 release to approximately $14.70. This transition offer remains active for six months, running from October 28, 2026 until April 28, 2027.

The release bolsters an already packed fall schedule, as tracked in our comprehensive October 2026 video game release calendar. On the same date, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series players will also receive two brand-new Content Creator Packs (Holiday Getaways, Mansions & Manors) alongside the Blueprint Beats Radio station.
