Kiborg Launches Free BodySplit Update: New Playable Female Protagonist, Mud-Drenched Arenas, and Upgraded Co-Op

Kiborg BodySplit update new female playable character Sobaka Studio

Independent developer Sobaka Studio, the team behind hard-hitting brawlers Redeemer and 9 Monkeys of Shaolin, continues to expand its cybernetic roguelite beat 'em up Kiborg. Released today, October 30, 2026, across PC (Steam), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, the BodySplit update arrives alongside a 100% free DLC pack that refreshes both solo runs and local co-op brawls inside the prison planet Sigma.

A Playable Female Variation of Morgan Lee for Solo and Co-Op Runs

The headline addition of today's release is a new playable female character. Designed as a direct counterpart to main protagonist Morgan Lee, she shares the exact same bone-crushing melee combos, heavy firearm mastery, and cybernetic implant synergies while bringing her own character model and customization options into the arena.

Players should keep one important step in mind from Sobaka Studio's official patch notes: while the BodySplit title update downloads automatically, unlocking the new fighter requires claiming and activating the free KIBORG: Body Split DLC add-on from your platform's digital storefront (Steam, PlayStation Store, or Microsoft Store).

Once activated, the new protagonist immediately upgrades the local co-op mode introduced earlier in the game's post-launch roadmap. Two players fighting side by side in the deadly televised bloodsport The Last Ticket can now select distinct characters rather than controlling identical Morgan clones, making it much easier to track your position during chaotic late-run waves.

Mud-Drenched Levels and Morgan's New Prison Cell Hub

Beyond the roster expansion, the October 30 patch overhauls the visual atmosphere of high-level runs through Mud-Drenched Levels. Every time you climb to a higher difficulty tier inside Sigma and the Omega-201 tower, the arenas physically sink deeper into filth, thick mud, pooled blood, and industrial grime.

That environmental decay reinforces the grim premise of Kiborg, where inmates serving a 1,300-year sentence are endlessly reconstructed upon death unless they manage to battle through legions of rival prisoners and reach the extraction shuttle waiting on the prison roof.

Between runs, inmates can also explore a new hub area: Morgan's personal prison cell. Sobaka Studio has relocated both the co-op activation terminal and the appearance customization stand directly into this cell. From there, players can equip Morgan's redesigned default outfit (crafted to better match the oppressive sci-fi setting, while preserving his classic costume as an option), change the female fighter's hair color, or shave off Morgan's signature mustache entirely.

Full Kiborg BodySplit Patch Notes and 40% Steam Discount

As studio founder Dmitry Kachkov recently shared, Sobaka Studio has kept a dedicated core team of five to six developers focused on Kiborg's post-launch support, delivering more than 10 major updates since April 2025 while the rest of the studio builds two new mid-budget melee action titles. Here is the complete summary of the BodySplit update:

  • New Playable Character (Free DLC): Adds a female protagonist option with the same combat capabilities as Morgan Lee, enabling two distinct characters in local co-op.
  • Mud-Drenched Levels: Combat arenas accumulate noticeably more mud, grime, and blood with every successive difficulty tier.
  • Morgan's Prison Cell: Expands the pre-run hub with Morgan's cell, which now houses the co-op activator and appearance selection stand.
  • Expanded Customization & Default Outfit: Introduces a darker default costume for Morgan (with the original outfit still selectable), hair color swaps for the female character, and the ability to remove Morgan's mustache.
  • Agent Animation Desync Fix: Resolves a frustrating bug where executing an Agent enemy caused character animations to desync and lock up improperly.

To celebrate the update, Kiborg is currently discounted by 40% on Steam, dropping the price from $24.99 to $14.99. Amazon subscribers should also remember that the full PC version is currently included in Prime Gaming's October 2026 free games lineup to claim and keep forever.

My Take

When an independent brawler faces a tough commercial launch, plenty of studios quietly move on after a couple of hotfixes. Sobaka Studio chose the harder road with Kiborg. Over the past eighteen months, Dmitry Kachkov's team has rolled out more than ten substantial updates, added local co-op, reworked the difficulty curve in the Descent expansion, and listened closely to player feedback from early demos to sharpen its melee impact. While BodySplit is primarily a cosmetic and quality-of-life milestone, giving co-op partners two distinct fighters on screen solves a real readability issue during chaotic arena waves, and the progressively filthier high-difficulty stages fit this grimy sci-fi gauntlet like a glove.
