Look Outside Launches Today on PS5, Switch 2, PS4, and Switch: Final Vision 2.0 Content, Cursed Mode, and Launch Trailer

Right on cue for Halloween Eve, the claustrophobic apartment nightmare crafted solo by Quebec developer Francis Coulombe and published by Devolver Digital has thrown open its curtains on consoles. Starting today, Friday, October 30, 2026, the turn-based survival horror RPG Look Outside is officially available on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop, accompanied by a grotesque new launch trailer shared by PlayStation.

PS5, Switch 2, PS4, and Switch Versions Ship With the Massive 2.0 Final Vision Update

Following last week's official October 30 console release date announcement for Look Outside, PlayStation and Nintendo players can now step into the cursed apartment complex without waiting on post-launch expansions. The console port comes pre-loaded with over a year of major PC updates released since its March 2025 debut, headlined by the massive 2.0 "Final Vision" update and balance patches through version 2.3.

Out of the box, console survivors get access to dozens of extra body-horror monstrosities and optional bosses, hidden building sub-areas, new narrative endings, and the punishing Cursed Mode. Designed for veterans who think they have mastered the building's layout, Cursed Mode remixes enemy encounters and adds fresh traps across all four floors. Priced at $9.99 (€9.99), purchasing the PlayStation Store digital edition unlocks both the PS4 and PS5 versions, while PC players on Steam can currently grab the game at a 40% Halloween discount for $5.99. Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One remain noticeably absent from today's rollout.

15 Days of Claustrophobic Survival Against Over 150 Hand-Drawn Abominations

Originally born out of a one-month game jam before earning an Overwhelmingly Positive (98%) rating on Steam, Look Outside builds its dread around a deceptively simple hook: a mysterious phenomenon outside the window instantly warps anyone who looks at it into a writhing monstrosity. Stepping into the shoes of ordinary tenant Sam, you have to survive for 15 days inside a four-story apartment building until the anomaly passes.

Look Outside turn-based combat throwing a Molotov cocktail at a cosmic horror boss
Turn-based corridor battles track physical distance between Sam and over 150 hand-drawn creatures, forcing you to weigh fragile melee weapons against scarce ammo and Molotovs.

Starvation quickly forces Sam out of his flat to scavenge neighboring units. Out in the hallways, encounters play out as tense turn-based battles against more than 150 hand-drawn creatures illustrated by Francis Coulombe. What makes combat stand out is its spatial distance mechanic: you must decide whether to burn precious firearm ammo from afar, hurl an improvised explosive, or let a mutated neighbor close the gap into melee range where kitchen knives and pipes can snap mid-swing. If you are planning a spooky weekend marathon, this 10-to-12-hour RPG pairs nicely with our Halloween guide to 13 short horror games you can beat in a single night.

Between scavenging runs, Sam's apartment acts as a vital sanctuary. You can cook hot meals to restore health, craft makeshift weapons, take a shower, and even play retro video games on his CRT television to keep his sanity intact and learn combat skills. Every so often, a knock echoes at the front door, forcing you to gamble on whether to open up for a quirkily sane neighbor who can join your party, or face whatever grotesque thing is waiting on the welcome mat.

Every hallway encounter balances eccentric dark humor with unsettling pixel-art body horror as former neighbors mutate beyond recognition.

My Perspective

What hooks me most about Look Outside is the jarring whiplash between mundane domestic life and pure nightmare fuel the second you unlock your front door. One minute I am boiling pasta on the stove and playing a video game to keep Sam's spirits up, and thirty seconds later I am cornered by a former neighbor whose chest has split open into a cluster of blinking eyeballs. Getting the 2.0 Final Vision update baked right into the PS5 and Switch 2 versions on day one makes this ten-dollar gem an easy recommendation, especially for handheld play in the dark on Halloween weekend, even if it is baffling that Xbox players were left locked outside the building.
