Six Years After Launch, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Finally Gets Its New Game+ Update on November 5 as Ubisoft Rules Out More Remakes

Assassin's Creed Valhalla New Game+ update launching November 5, 2026

Almost nobody saw this comeback happening after more than three years of radio silence on the game. Even though the development team officially closed the book on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla back in February 2023 after insisting the RPG's structure made a replay mode impractical, Ubisoft just delivered a massive surprise in its Fall 2026 franchise update. To celebrate Eivor's Viking saga crossing the milestone of 40 million players, a full New Game+ update will launch for free on November 5, 2026, right as the publisher clarifies its roadmap and confirms that no other classic remakes are currently in active development.

New Game+, Mithril Crafting, and Naoe's Outfit: Everything Coming in the November 5 Patch

For years, the absence of a New Game+ mode stood as the single biggest frustration for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla veterans. Originally released in November 2020 alongside the current generation of consoles, Ubisoft Montreal's sprawling Viking epic wrapped up its post-launch support with The Last Chapter at the end of 2022 without ever letting players carry their hard-earned arsenal into a fresh campaign. In the official update shared by Franchise Head of Content Jean Guesdon, Ubisoft acknowledged the community's long wait and unveiled an overhaul that goes far beyond a basic save carryover.

Starting November 5, 2026, the update will let players restart Eivor's journey across Norway and England while keeping the bulk of their progression and inventory against enemies rebalanced with dedicated New Game+ scaling. Even better, the patch introduces several deep progression and gear upgrades:

  • Optional Progression Mode: Gear, Runes, and Masteries can now all actively contribute to Eivor's overall Power rating.
  • New Mithril Crafting Resource: Players can gather a brand-new material called Mithril to upgrade Divine Gear and further strengthen runes.
  • Divine Gear Quality for All Items: Previously tied to the Dawn of Ragnarök expansion, Divine Gear rarity is now being extended across every single piece of equipment in the game.
  • Stash System and Crossover Rewards: The update adds a dedicated gear stash, new runes, fresh achievements, and a special Master Assassin outfit inspired by Naoe's shinobi attire from Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Ubisoft noted that full patch notes will drop in the coming days alongside news regarding current-generation console updates. The publisher is also encouraging players to share their feedback on Discord and Reddit, pointing out that community reception to this surprise patch will directly inform internal discussions about bringing similar late-stage updates to other titles across the franchise.

Ubisoft Confirms No Other Assassin’s Creed Remakes Are in Active Development

This unexpected return to ninth-century England arrives just days after Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced's final major patch 1.0.8, which similarly added New Game+ and Nightmare difficulty. While the franchise's first-ever remake, launched on July 9, 2026 by Ubisoft Singapore, proved to be a major hit with players, the new Assassin's Creed Leadership Team headed by Martin Schelling and Jean Guesdon moved quickly to temper expectations around a wave of back-to-back remakes.

Addressing community speculation head-on, Ubisoft stated transparently that no other Assassin’s Creed remake is currently in active development. The studio explained that rebuilding legacy gameplay systems from scratch while balancing nostalgia with modern mechanics was a massive undertaking. While Ubisoft emphasized that the door remains open to revisiting classic entries down the road, its development studios are presently focused on brand-new chapters featuring unannounced historical settings and original stories.

Codename Invictus Reworked, Netflix's Rome Shoot Wrapping Up, and the 2027 Anniversary

Alongside Ubisoft's development update and cryptic message for Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, the Fall 2026 briefing shed new light on Codename Invictus. The multiplayer PvP project hosted its first private Insiders Session a few months ago, giving hundreds of players hands-on time with an early prototype. While testers praised the map verticality, parkour flow, dynamic teamplay, and the ability to play as distinct characters from across the series, they also made it clear that the game needed more of the core pillars that define Assassin’s Creed. The team has spent recent months reshaping Invictus around that feedback.

Finally, Ubisoft confirmed that production on Netflix's live-action Assassin’s Creed series is nearing completion on location in Rome, Italy, where Jean Guesdon recently visited the set and reviewed scripts with the showrunners, while award-winning composer Hannah Peel has boarded the show to write its musical score. Everything is now building toward 2027, when the Brotherhood will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a full year of reveals and community events.

My Take

Watching Ubisoft reverse course nearly four years after officially declaring that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla would never get New Game+ feels surreal, but it is the exact kind of goodwill move that wins back veteran players. Nobody wanted to restart a 120-hour Viking campaign from scratch and lose every piece of hard-earned armor; pairing a proper enemy scaling pass with Mithril upgrades and universal Divine Gear actually gives endgame builds a reason to exist. I also respect the blunt honesty regarding future remakes after Black Flag Resynced: rather than strip-mining nostalgia on an assembly line, pouring those resources into original historical settings and fixing the foundations of Invictus is the smartest call the new leadership team could make.
