Cronos: The New Dawn Adds Full Photo Mode, Rebalanced HDR, and Cutscene Skipping in Free Update

Polish developer Bloober Team has officially rolled out a free Photo Mode update today for its sci-fi survival horror title Cronos: The New Dawn across PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Alongside a comprehensive camera suite, the patch introduces rebalanced HDR calibration, cutscene skipping for dialogue choices, and a seasonal Steam discount of up to 55% off.
Full Photo Mode for Brutalist Ruins and Stranded Cats
Detailed in Bloober Team's official Steam patch notes, the new Photo Mode lets players freeze the action at any moment. Whether you are squaring off against mutating Orphans mid-merge or exploring the retro-futurist brutalism of New Dawn and 1981 Poland, the suite provides granular control over every frame.
Virtual photographers can fine-tune camera exposure, contrast, bloom, film grain, and chromatic aberration, or layer custom screen filters, frames, and stickers. In its announcement, Bloober Team jokingly noted that the feature was built first and foremost for "taking pictures of cats" that the Traveler can rescue and pet across the wasteland.
Between high-stakes expeditions for the enigmatic Collective to harvest Essences from key figures of the past before The Change consumes humanity, fans of cassette-futurist art direction now have a dedicated toolkit to highlight the stark contrast between Eastern Bloc concrete and temporal anomalies.

Rebalanced HDR Calibration, Choice Cutscene Skipping, and Warden Fix
Beyond photography tools, the Krakow-based studio, whose secretive early Silent Hill 2 Remake codenames with Konami were recently revealed, addressed several high-priority community requests across all platforms in this patch:
- Enhanced HDR Calibration: Black and white levels have been thoroughly rebalanced to take full advantage of high dynamic range on supported displays and TVs, sharpening visibility inside the game's pitch-black corridors.
- Choice Cutscene Skipping: Players can now skip choice-based dialogue cutscenes, a major quality-of-life upgrade requested by veterans grinding through New Game+ and Temporal Diver runs.
- Critical Progression Fix: Resolved an issue where The Warden could occasionally disappear following the Ascension cutscenes.
Halloween Pumpkin Head and Up to 55% Off on Steam
Just in time for Halloween, the update highlights the seasonal Pumpkin Head cosmetic, available directly through the in-game Extras menu to give the Traveler's heavy diving suit a festive twist. To celebrate the patch, Cronos: The New Dawn is currently discounted by 55% on the Deluxe Edition and 50% on the Standard Edition on Steam.
My Take
Bloober Team continues to deliver thoughtful post-launch support for Cronos: The New Dawn. In a tense survival horror game where reading the shadows determines whether an Orphan merges with a nearby corpse before you can incinerate it, properly rebalanced HDR black and white levels make an immediate difference on OLED and Mini-LED screens. Being able to skip choice-based cutscenes on repeat New Game+ and Temporal Diver playthroughs also removes the last major pacing hurdle for completionists exploring the ruins of 1980s Poland.
