Physical Grappling, Tier 5 Weapons, and Pendola Pass: How ARC Raiders Overhauls Progression with Frozen Trail

Embark Studios is raising the stakes for ARC Raiders. As the third-person PvPvE extraction shooter edges closer to full launch, the Frozen Trail content update delivers a massive overhaul to the core survival loop. Far from a simple winter visual pass, this free expansion introduces the largest battleground in the game to date, Pendola Pass, alongside a fully physics-simulated grappling hook and a Tier 5 weapon amplification system designed to sustain high-stakes endgame play.
Pendola Pass and the Rush of Simulated Grappling
Carved beyond the jagged mountain ridges bordering the Rust Belt, Pendola Pass thrusts raiders into an abandoned Italian alpine village covered in snow, surrounding the frozen wreckage of an Exodus transit facility. The sheer elevation differences demand unmatched vertical movement. To cross deep crevasses and conquer rooftops without catching sniper fire, Embark Studios introduces a long-awaited tool: the mechanical grappling hook.
Instead of relying on rigid point-to-point zip lines or scripted transitions, this grappling hook operates as a fully simulated physics rope. Players can swing across wide chasms with realistic momentum, rappel down sheer cliff faces, scale multi-story structures, or tether directly onto roaming ARC armor to flank weak points. Two new tactical items round out this mobility kit: the Tether Launcher, which pins hostile machines to the ground or binds multiple targets together, and the Yank Grenade, which forcefully pulls enemies toward its detonation radius.

Tier 5 Weapon Amplification and Pinnacle Dungeon Runs
The classic trap of extraction shooters is hitting a gear plateau once epic loadouts are secured. Embark answers this challenge through Weapon Amplification. Unlocked at the upgraded Research Workstation inside Speranza, this feature allows fifteen existing weapons to advance into a fifth quality tier. Rather than handing out generic statistical buffs, amplification unlocks branching perk modifications. The Burletta pistol converts into a fully automatic machine pistol, the Renegade gains a high-power precision optic, while the Rattler gains access to incendiary rounds or high-capacity drum magazines.
Building these enhanced variants demands rare materials exclusive to end-game pinnacle activities. Squads must coordinate to breach the Fallen Emperor, a downed robotic colossus converted into a permanent dungeon that requires specialized entry keys. High-tier crews can also mount an airborne raid against the patrolling ARC Frigate, boarding the sky vessel to sabotage its core systems. This aggressive loop mirrors the high-stakes forward base dynamic seen in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ progression, where persistent headquarters demand constant high-risk infiltration.
Frozen Hazards, New Machine Classes, and Free Access
Pendola Pass introduces three dangerous ARC machine classes. The Bully rushes squads with relentless close-quarters charges, the Skulker stalks perimeter lines to isolate stragglers, and the Hydra blankets combat sectors in devastating rocket barrages. The environment itself turns lethal through dynamic Flash Freeze weather anomalies, which instantly drop ambient temperatures and force teams to seek shelter or freeze to death. Survival hinges on navigating these hazards toward the Ballistic Gondola, a high-altitude cable car serving as the map's signature extraction point.
Embark Studios is hosting a free-to-play trial running from October 8 through October 12, 2026. For squads eager to test whether physical rope mechanics and pinnacle raids can elevate ARC Raiders above its competition, the winter pass is officially open on the official ARC Raiders Steam page.
